What to Expect on Your Moving Day
Moving day is a significant milestone in your relocation journey. To ensure the process runs smoothly and stress-free, here’s what you can expect and how to prepare. This guide provides a comprehensive overview, focusing on pre-pack preparations and what happens on the packing day itself.
Pre-Pack Preparation: Get Ready for a Smooth Transition
Before our professional packing crew arrives, taking the following steps will help keep everything organized and efficient:
1. Secure Valuables
Set aside and safely store essential items such as:
- Keys, passports, airline tickets, and other travel essentials.
- Important documents, including insurance, mortgage, or car papers.
- Jewelry, cash, stocks, or other valuables.
- Small electronic devices like mobile phones, tablets, or MP3 players.
- Items that will not be included in the move (e.g., airfreight shipments or storage).
Keep all valuables with you during your travels. Do not pack them in the shipment.
2. Prepare Equipment and Household Items
- Drain fuel from lawnmowers and garden tools by running them until they stall.
- Remove CDs, DVDs, and other media from players to prevent transit.
3. Handle Hazardous Materials
Dispose of flammable or hazardous materials such as bleach, paint, thinners, batteries, and aerosols, as these cannot be shipped.
4. Electronics and Appliances
- Backup important files on an external hard drive or cloud storage.
- Remove ink cartridges from printers (only sealed, new cartridges can be shipped).
- Defrost and dry refrigerators, freezers, washers, and dishwashers at least 24 hours before moving day.
- Disconnect all electronic devices before the packing crew arrives.
5. Wall and Ceiling Fixtures.
Remove mounted items like TVs, mirrors, chandeliers, and artwork if they’re included in the shipment. If needed, our team can assist with removal for an additional fee.
6. General Sorting and Organization
- Ensure household waste bins are emptied or moved outside to avoid confusion.
- Separate items that will travel with you, be placed in storage, or sent via a different shipment.
- Clearly identify any items that should not be packed to prevent mix-ups.
7. Complete Documentation
Send all completed insurance and customs forms to your Travelcargo Move Coordinator ahead of packing day.
On Packing Day: Professional Packing at Its Best
Our experienced crew will arrive prepared to make your move efficient and hassle-free. Here’s what happens on the day:
1. Initial Walk-Through
The team leader will walk through your home with you to identify fragile, special, or important items. They will also document any pre-existing property conditions(e.g., scuff marks on walls or floors) .
After packing is complete, a final walk-through will help ensure nothing is left behind.
2. Protecting Your Property
Our crew takes the utmost care when handling your belongings.
• If any existing damage is found during packing, it will be noted immediately and recorded.
• Notify the team leader or your Move Coordinator if you have any concerns.
Note: Movers cannot remove their shoes or wear protective shoe covers for safety reasons. If this is a concern, discuss alternative protective measures with your Move Coordinator in advance.
3. Packing Process
- Crews will work in multiple rooms simultaneously to speed up the process.
- Packing cartons may contain items from different rooms to maximize space and reduce shipping costs.
- Some wrinkling in clothing is expected due to extended packing periods..
4. Disassembly and Inventory
- Items that require disassembly will be handled by the crew. Taking photos beforehand can assist the delivery team during reassembly.
- All items will be assigned a unique inventory number, and any pre-existing damage will be recorded. Review and sign the inventory list after packing.
5. Carton Management
Packed cartons will remain at your home until loading day. If you have young children, inform the crew if you prefer boxes to be stacked at a lower height for safety.
For multi-day moves, essential furniture (like beds) may remain intact until the final day.
By following these steps and understanding the process, you can ensure a seamless moving day experience. Our professional team is here to make your transition stress-free, with expert care and attention to detail.
